Being A Good Moon

"Soon as the evening shades prevail, the moon takes up the wondrous tale"
From The Spacious Firmament On High... Words by Joseph Addison 1812

On the unpaved road I grew up on, street lights were non-existent. If the night was moonless, it would be pitch black. On other nights, the only illumination were the heavenly bodies, with the moon being the chief light giver. On a cloudless night at the time on full moon, away from the lights of a city, the moon can shine with a great intensity. A good full moon in the country can allow you to cast a shadow. Why am I waxing so poetic about the moon this morning. After all, it is a dark, dank, and airless place, devoid of it's own light. The only reason the we can see the moon at all is that it reflects the light of the sun upon us. And here lies the reason I am talking about the moon this morning. People are like our moon. Having no light of our own, we depend on other light sources to be seen. Christians are special in this sense. With no inherent light, we are challenged to reflect God's. The way we treat others with compassion, kindness, generosity, and godly care is a reflection of God's glorious light. The psalmist tell us the we can even use God's Word to illuminate our way. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psa.119:105). God even gives us an extra incentive to reflect His wonderful qualities in our actions. When He told the people in Matt.25:35-40 that they had given Him food, drink, clothes, shelter, and care when he was sick, they didn't remember doing these things. He said: "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me" (V 40). Should there be any greater incentive to do good things than in realizing that we are bringing comfort to the Lord in doing so? In a season when we are thinking about thanksgiving, my challenge to all of us, obviously including myself, is to reflect Jesus Christ in our lives in both our words and our deeds. Our challenge is to be a good moon...

Have a great day... Let His light shine from and through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
