The Metamorphosis

In biology we all learned about the metamorphosis of certain creatures. I really enjoyed the Lepidopteras (butterflies) that went through the stages of egg, larvae, pupae, and adult. They are magnificent. When we start on our Christian journey, it might be important to note that there are two key beginning points. The apostle Paul pointed them out for us. "Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Col.3:1-2). The verses did not come with darkened print, I put that in there because they are the two things. They are not only a good starting point, but a great daily reminder. We are to seek the things that are above and also think about things that are above also. That brings me back to my quote that I used today instead of a scripture. I understand that Lao Tse, Margaret Thatcher, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and others, all used it it some form or another. It's beginning is exactly where Paul begins in his writings of Colossians 3. Our metamorphosis begins with what we think about... "Set your hearts (seek) on things above." Why? Because that is where Christ is... "Set your minds on things above." Why? Otherwise we will fill our minds with earthly things. Today's quote says that it all seems to begin with the things we think about. In the Book of Philippians we find one of my favorite verses that will be very appropriate here. I like to call it, "thought adjustment...." "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable --- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy --- think about such things" (4:8). We have the ability to choose what we spend our mental energy on. What we choose to think about influences and the determines just who we are.... And do you know what? We all have a choice, so lets all choose well....
