We Are What We Wear

"So, as those who have been chosen of God, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience;" (Col.3:12)

I will probably not ever be on any of the best dressed lists out there that various designing people compose. One of my fashion faux pas is that I really enjoy wearing shorts all year long. Even though it may snow today, I'll probably we wearing them, so this ought to be good devotional for me... In the verses preceding today's, the apostle Paul explains some fashion no-nos. I am talking about things we should not wear... We should not wear immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed which amounts to idolatry. He then rattles of a few more like anger, wrath, malice, slander and abusive speech... This is not the first time that Paul used the clothing thing to get a point across. "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ..." (Rom.13:14) "But all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ" (Gal.3:27). Why do you think that Paul used this idea of clothing, and how to dress, to explain just how followers of Christ ought to act? I'm pretty sure that with a bit of thought we can all come up with the answer. People have a say in what they wear. Often, what they wear says something about who they are as individuals. Paul is telling us through the clothing imagery that we choose how we act and those actions tell others just who we are. As Christians, this clothing we wear reflects on Jesus, the one we follow. I think we sometimes get bogged down when we put our focus on the things we shouldn't do... Jesus died for the sins of man, and though He still hates them, I think that he would rather have us focus on the good things in life.... Things like love, humility, kindness, mercy, compassion, patience, and goodness... These things should compose the clothes that we wear as Christians and shape just who we are. If we put our energies into these things, we will certainly be better equipped to live them out... So, dress well my friend, dress well...

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
