Getting Separation

"Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate, says the Lord" (2 Cor.6:17).

With the storing of information in computers, we sometimes forget the "paper trail." Do any of you still have filing cabinets in which you store information? Do you remember those manila separators that helped to organize the papers into various categories? I am not exactly "Mr. Organization," so my cabinets were usually a mess. Today's verse talks about separation... It's about being separate from worldly things and practices... In the Old Testament, God lifted David up in society and made him the king. In order to maintain his holiness, he had to separate himself from the world, because with the title came many temptations. Early in his reign, he succumbed to them and made huge mistakes in his adulterous affair with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah. After suffering much remorse, he repented and for the rest of his life he lived a life mostly pleasing to God. If you and I were placed in such a lofty position, would we find it difficult to separate ourselves from worldly practices? David was certainly held in high esteem by many of the Israelites, even before becoming the king, and continued to be after ascending to the throne. Yet for the most part, he managed to separate himself from most of the temptations he encountered. In 2 Samuel 16, David encounters a relative of King Saul who curses him and pelts him with stones. David's nephew Abishai offers to have him killed, but David responds this way; "It may be that the Lord will see my distress and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today" (V 12).. His response reminds me of Jesus' teaching about turning the other cheek from Matt.5:39... David could have killed this man, or Saul for that matter, but chose the higher plane. Maybe he remembered his sinfulness of the past, or perhaps he just knew that God expected more... God expects more from us too... He expects us to get separation... Separation from the world...

Have a great day... Do good and give God the glory.. Love mark Phil.4:11
