In His Image

"Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness" (Gen.1:26) "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (Jn.4:24).

Because humans are created in the image of God, a lot of discussion has transpired over the years as to what image that is. In Jn.4:24, I think that Jesus certainly un-muddies those waters... God does no have a physical image as we know it, so our crafting has been done on a spiritual level. Many times in Jesus' life, the religious leaders tried to trick Him...They were never successful. In Mk.12:13-17, we have the time recalled for us about paying the poll tax to the Roman government. (the Jews hated this)... Jesus asked them for a coin which bore the resemblance of Caesar on it, and pretty much said this... "Sure... The money was made by the government, so go ahead and give it back to them...." He used the idea of imagery to make His point, and He does that with us too. We were made by God, so we should give ourselves to Him. God is much less interested in our money than He is in you and I. This brings me to two points... When we realize especially as Christians, that we are created in the image of God, we can start to imagine our potential. Since each of us have special God-given talents and interests, how can we use them to serve Him fully? We can even use mistakes we made in the past to help propel us into the people that God wants us to be. Secondly, how we interact with others is also determined by the image in which we were created. As Christians, we represent Jesus all along our walk... Our relationship with people around us, both Christian and non-Christian, should be flavored by the image in which we were created. Our Christ-like traits should keep us from losing our temper in situations that others lose theirs. You know what its like in those long super market lines or in congested traffic out on the roads... When we find ourselves in circumstances that could be potentially character testing, it is good for us to act accordingly... It is good for us to remember the image...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
