The Motivation

"For the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts" (1 Chron.28:9) "You alone know all the hearts of the sons of men" (1 Ki.8:39).

The verse from 1 Chronicles were the words of King David for his son Solomon. As we read the second one, we find Solomon's words much later on. Do you think he got it? These scriptures are telling us that God knows all of our thoughts and even understands the intentions. All the way through to Jesus' day, this was unchanged... "But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men, and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He himself knew what was in man" (Jn.2:24-25). Lets see if we follow the chain here... David told Solomon, and he understood because he echoed the same words later on. Jesus, the Son of God knows that He too understands the hearts and intents of man. After all this, we ought to get it too. There is no place that we can go and no thought that we can think, that is hidden from our Lord and Savior. His Word is "living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart... And there is no creature hidden from, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" (Heb.4:12-13). In that we cannot hide anything from the Lord, shouldn't we desire to serve Him with willingness? Since he alone knows and understands every intent (motive) of our thoughts, shouldn't we want to serve Him with every fiber of our being? In all aspects of life, motivation is a powerful tool that keeps our eyes on the goals that we set before us. It is even more powerful when it involves our relationship with Jesus. He knows everything about us, and we ought to be motivated to please Him in every way....
