A Short Thank You Note

<"For all that You've done I will thank You, for all that You're going to do. For all that You've promised and all that You are is all that has carried me through, Jesus I thank You!
And I thank You, thank You Lord...... And I thank You, thank You Lord....

Thank You Lord by Dennis L. Jernigan 1990

In this fast-paced electronic/cybrer age, I feel that sometimes we have lost the personal touches that come with actually writing... You remember the stuff I'm talking about when our thought processes flow from the brain through the arm and fingers as they actually construct those thoughts into written words. You have to be so much more careful, because there's no spell-check involved and we have to erase or cross out mistakes. Once a month on Sunday evenings at Northfield, we have what we call our Barnabas Ministry... We pass out postcards and ask everyone to write short notes of thanks and encouragement to people that may need the thanks or encouragement. It makes us feel good and encourages the writers as well, which is another important part of the exercise... The epistles written by the apostle Paul were wonderful notes of encouragement to churches that certainly needed them. As we read them, we find that we need the encouragement too... Near the end of my favorite epistle, the one to the Philippians, Paul finishes with a thank-you note... It would be good for us to read Phil.4:10-23 and meditate on the words... "But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity" (4:10). If we skip a bit to verse 18, Paul is thankful again for the generosity shown by the people in this church... "Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction" (V 14). A wonderful sense of fellowship is shown between a church and their mentor. The verses clearly show their on-going love and support for Paul as he traveled from Macedonia, to Thessalonica, and finally to Rome. While he was in Rome, they actually sent him a gift via Epaphroditus... This sense of love and thanks ought to exist in our churches today, in both a vertical and horizontal way. Today's "verses" are the words of a song written by Dennis Jernigan in which the thank-you note is to the Lord, the vertical part. It would do us all good to write them to one another, the horizontal part. "But encourage one another day after day" ....(Heb.3:13).

Have a great day... Give thanks with a grateful heart... Love mark Phil.4:11
