Real Horsepower

"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me..... and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe" (Phil.4:13, Eph.1:19).

For many years in science, horsepower is the term that has been used to measure the rate at which work is done. For you bean counters out there, one horsepower (hp) = 746 watts. All of our cars are rated by the amount of horsepower they can deliver. Today's verses speak about the wonderful power that is available to Christians. There is no hp unit with which it can be measured, but it is a real power. It is just like hp, in that it can be used to accomplish things. The same power from God that enabled Jesus to be raised from the dead and be sitting at His right hand, is there for Christians to use. Paul attributes this power to the Holy Spirit that dwells in us... "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you" (Rom.8:11). Paul prayed that God would strengthen the Ephesians with such power, which is described as being able to accomplish great things... "That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man..." (Eph.3:16). To put this in simple terms, all that we are required to do can be accomplished with the Spirit as the instrumental agent. The ramifications of this power lets us know that we are not alone in our efforts to work out our salvation... In essence, there is no excuse for not doing what God desires. If we fail, it is not because there was no power available for us to tap into. When we knowingly sin, it is because we have opted out of using His power.... What a wonderful blessing is there for those who are in Christ... The wonderful blessing to have that power. Its not horsepower.... Its Spiritpower....

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
