Real Improvement

"When you stop trying to get better, you cease to be good" Oliver Cromwell

The broadcast booths of many sporting events are often hosted by ex-athletes who have stopped improving. This might sound a bit harsh, but I'm just trying to keep it real. If they were still improving at their sport, believe me, they would still be playing instead of announcing. Our physical skills start to erode as years pass by, and with it goes real and steady improvement. That doesn't mean that we can't play and enjoy activities, it just means that our thoughts of becoming as good as LeBron James just won't happen. There is a great hope out there however... Our mental and spiritual skills can improve... As a matter of fact, the Lord calls on us to become more spiritual each day. As we look back on 2013, do you think we can improve our Christian lives? If you answer no, I am wasting my time this morning... Lets listen to the apostle Paul; "Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which I was laid hold of by Jesus Christ" (Phil.3:12). Paul says here that he has to get better, but there's more... "Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on for the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ" (Vs 13-14). With this in mind, we might ask ourselves this question.... "As another year has gone by, have I made the best use of the time that the Lord has allotted me?" If you or I cannot answer this in the affirmative, it looks like there is room for improvement. I will spend the next few days looking at those areas...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
