Church of Christ

Improvement Numero Dos

"Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves were taught by God to love one another; for indeed, you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia, but we urge you brethren to excel still more" (1 Thess.4:9-10).

As the apostle Paul writes to the church at Thessalonica, we can visualize what kind of people they are through today's verses. There are so many good things in the verses that must be brought out if we hope to be a loving congregation of Christians. He actually says that he really doesn't have to write them about how they love one another, but he does anyway. Notice that he doesn't take any credit for this love, but goes right to the heart of the love... "for you yourselves were taught by God to love one another...." Do you think that these people knew everyone's names in their group? Would you suppose that they had been in one another's homes? When a new member came into the fold, would you imagine that they were welcomed and loved? I ask these questions as springboards toward looking inwardly. Do you reckon that if Paul were around today that he would write a few verses in a letter to us expressing this kind of love. As we look back to last year, were we those kind of Christians, or do we need to improve. I believe that when we establish our great love for God and make it increase, that a love for one another is a natural outgrowth. Just one more thing as I conclude today... After all the compliments about their care for one another, Paul adds..... "but we urge you brethren to excel still more...." As good as we might be in our love for one another, it would seem that we can always make improvements... "And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds" (Heb.10:24). Lets resolve to get to know, love, nurture and stimulate one another... It is God's way...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
