The Believer's Power

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe" (Eph.1:18-19).

The world has always been intrigued with the generation of power. Towns were built near rivers and streams so that the power of the moving water could help them. Dams were built to harness the power locked in the water, and then we went on the bigger things like steam engines and internal combustion engines. Horsepower (745.7 watts) became the byword as we ramped up the amount of power produced. In today's verses, the apostle Paul prays for the church at Ephesus, as he speaks specifically about three things... "the hope of His calling...." "the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints..." "the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe..." (my dark print) Since power is my theme today, lets zero in on the third thing that Paul prayed that they would understand. I want a great biblical truth to sink in for all us us this morning about nature of God's power toward us who believe. We might have a tendency to slough it off like so many words, but this power is very real. The greatest thing about it is that it's reserved for those who believe... It would be good for us to read and meditate on Eph.1:15-23 today. It gives us some wonderful insight into just what this power is and where it comes from. God used His power to raise Jesus from the dead (Vs 19-20). He exalted Christ by seating Him at His right hand. (V 20). He put all things in subjection to Christ. (Vs 21-23). That very same power that worked in Christ is available to believers today. Now you might get to thinking that this is a pretty lofty concept that we're dealing with here.... And it is! We will venture into the second chapter of the Book of Ephesians tomorrow to see how that same power that God used with Christ applies to us. You may want to glimpse ahead to get the gist of it all. That same power that raised Jesus, exalted Him, and gave Him authority, can be ours.. I look forward to sharing it with you...

Have a great day.. Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
