Tell Your Story

"Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow" (Jas.1:17).

My dad used to tell me stories about how it was when he was young and his life experiences. The problem was, that he had a limited repertoire... The same stories were repeated over and over again. My mom, especially in her declining years, did the same thing. Come to think of it, people that are the closest to me say that I am guilty of this too. Go figure... I didn't tell my dad that I heard the stories before because I was glad he was talking with me and I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I suspect those those around me are kind most of the time too, and indulge me a lot... As a teacher, I have found that story-telling is often an effective learning tool, as students connect a well told story with a principle learned. Today's verse gives us insight into where the blessings of life come from, and we all have them. We should not be remiss in telling stories to others about how God has blessed us. Our words ought to overflow with thanksgiving to God, and when something especially good happens, He should be the first one we thank, no matter how large or small... A phrase that we should start many conversations with could be..... "Remember when God.......' When things may not be going so well, the story might not be as easily told. Perhaps this is the time when we ought to listen to the stories of others to get encouraged. We might ask them how God helped them along the way when times were not so good. By telling our stories and listening to the stories of others, we are nourished. By telling and listening, we are also often encouraged, because times are never always good or always bad. By doing this, we are reminded of why we serve God and why we should continue to serve Him... "Did I tell you the one about.....?"

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
