Proper Praising

"Praise the name of Jesus. Praise the name of Jesus. He's my rock, He's my fortress, He's my Deliverer, In Him do I trust! Praise the name of Jesus."

The Song Praise the Name of Jesus... Roy Hicks Jr. 1976

I will finish this series today that focused on Hannah, who had her fervent and faithful prayer answered by God. The first ten verses of 1 Samuel 2, express her great praise in prayer... "My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance" (V 1). There is something important to note about this prayer of praise that is good for us to take to heart. She says that "my horn is lifted high..." To have one's horn lifted up by God is to be delivered from disgrace to a position of honor and strength. Israel is about to enter into an important period in their history, with an establishment of a kingship through her son Samuel, and she rejoices in the Lord. What I find to be so important is this... The supreme source of Hannah's joy is not just in the child that she has been blessed with. The real source of her joy is in the God who has answered her prayers. O, she will love her son and keep her vow, but she is keenly aware of the source from which her blessings flow. The apostle Paul sets the tone for us when he writes these words to the church at Thessalonica.... "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thess.5:17-18). We are to be a people that rejoice always. We are to rejoice and give praise especially when we have received blessings from the Lord. When delivered from his enemies, David wrote this... "Therefore, I will praise you among the nations, O Lord; I will sing praise to your name" (Psa.18:49). Praising God is how Christians are supposed to offer spiritual sacrifices to the Him... "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise --- the fruit of lips that confess His name" (Heb.13:15). Instead of a scripture, I used a song found in our hymn books today... Have you ever had a song rattling around your head during the day? I hope this one does....

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
