A Recipe For Finding Favor In God's Eyes

"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord" (Gen.6:8).

Today's verse is simple and straight forward. There is no parsing of words... In its simplicity we ought to find a credo... I don't know about you, but I would like to find favor in the eyes of the Lord also. It logically follows that if I find favor in God's eyes, that my actions toward people would be good ones and I would find favor in theirs also... Years ago at an end of the school year teacher's event in which everyone brought food for a fellowship together, I found this unassuming bowl of "stuff" along side of some Tostitos. I quickly dipped a chip into it, and the taste was simply awesome. I went around the room to find out who made it so that I could get the recipe. I have been making that salsa for my family and friends for years, and most of them love it just like I do... Getting the recipes for good tasting things is a must for many people, so I am just wondering what Noah's recipe for finding favor in God's eyes was. "Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time" (V 9a). Noah's godly life was a stark contrast the wicked lives of his contemporaries. This verse is not to say that he was perfect and sinless, but there were no blatant and glaring faults. It would seem that he was a man of moral integrity among his peers... "and he walked with God" (9b). Noah manifested his righteousness and integrity by walking with God. In this, he followed in the footsteps of his great-grandfather Enoch. He probably did this by calling on the Lord often and offering sacrifices at the proper times. "Noah did everything just as the Lord commanded him" (V22). The writer of the New Testament Book of Hebrews says that this obedience of Noah came from his faith. (Heb.11:7). The apostle Peter called Noah a "preacher of righteousness" (2 Pet.2:5) in that he not only lived a righteous life, but proclaimed the need for godliness to others. All things considered, Noah was certainly a unique and unusual human being, but because of him he and his family were saved. There is certainly a recipe here, so lets look tomorrow for the reason why we need to find favor in God's eyes...

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
