Why Do We Keep Silent?

"For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed of his past sins" (2 Pet.1:8-9).

Today's verses follow Peter's list of Christian virtues. Peter is teaching Christians about true growth, and finishes with the consequences. Though one might experience the joy of salvation, through negligence they can fail to grow, having forgotten those joys of their salvation. They have entered into a state of spiritual famine... In a state of famine, one has little to share with others, but if they are enjoying the blessings of salvation, they'll want to tell others. Here's what David did: "When I keep silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long" (Psa.32:3). Here's what Philip did after Jesus told him to follow: "Philip found Nathaniel and told him...." (Jn.1:44). Some may fail to share because of fear or discouragement, but God doesn't want us to be fearful, and boldness can come through prayer. If it is discouragement that keeps one silent he or she must remember the principle of sowing and reaping and the example of our Lord. Some may fail to share because they find this concept too complicated to follow. It doesn't take a PHD in Biophysics to teach the truth of God's Word, as in the Book of Acts the gospel was normally presented in just one lesson. We aren't obliged to teach the good news beyond the first principles, because only if they receive those first will they be able to grow into the second. There's no need to teach about elders, deacons, or church discipline until they're willing to obey the simple commands of faith, repentance confession, and baptism... There is a lifetime in which those we share with can grow and mature in the Lord... Tomorrow we will take a look at how to share... I hope you're anxious....

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
