Comfortable In Your Skin

"That the older men be reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things" (Titus 2:2-3).

Our roles in society, the family, and the church are many and varied. In most cases they are defined by our age and maturity. The apostle Paul was probably about 25 or so years older than his protege Timothy. Drawing on tradition and the revelation he had received, Paul was passing on the message to the next generation. When he wrote to both Timothy and Titus, Paul was putting into practice what he hoped that they would in turn do with succeeding generations. As we look at today's verses, Paul was doing some role defining. In this section of the Book of Titus, (2:1-8) Christians of different genders and ages are having their roles explained. If Paul was like me, I am sure he gave thought to stepping back a generation in time and doing some things differently, but this is only a fantasy. He made no apologies for getting older, and it is unlikely that he tried to "ape" a younger generation. I believe that he was comfortable in his skin. Are we? At my age (68) members of the next two generations, for the most part, are not looking for me to be their peer. Hopefully, they will be looking to me for advice, as I have lived through the ages that they are approaching. Hopefully, the younger people look to the older ones for stability and guidance. The older look to the younger for the enthusiasm they bring with them. The young the old and everyone in between, contribute to the heritage that Christians have been passing along from generation to generation through the years. The importance of the Christian heritage for the current generation cannot be over-stated... But this one thing I am sure of... We must all be comfortable in our skin so that the work of the church can be accomplished... The plan is there and we must carry it out...

Have a great start to your week...Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
