Mind Control


"Therefore, prepare your minds for action....." (1 Pet.1:13).

There's an old saying out there floating around for years that says that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. The saying, wherever it came from, might be deemed sexist in today's world, but it brings up an interesting thought. Is there a way to "get to people?" You might guess from today's verse that I have a take on this, so let me give it a try... I would propose that there is a great battle being waged in today's world for the minds of people. To narrow it down for you and I, that battle is taking place for the minds of Christians... Satan knows this, and he is the general of the forces that would try to gain our lives by controlling our minds. The way to a man's heart, actually runs right through his mind... If we are going to crash and burn instead of living the type of life God wants us to, the road to destruction begins in the mind. TV, the internet, literature, friends, family, or co-workers may be the culprits in paving that road. In today's verse, the apostle Peter says that we must prepare our minds for action... To me then, the preparation of the Christian mind is a diligent task... We are in need of God's daily presence, because the preparing of a Christian's mind cannot be accomplished overnight. His presence will help us to fill our minds with godly thoughts and eliminate the sinful ones... I am reminded that God is like the potter, and we are the clay in His hands. We have to allow Him to mold and shape our thinking. As we come to cherish the time we spend with the Lord in His Word, in prayer, and in meditation, our minds should become more like His and His Sons'. I will leave you with my favorite verse about what ought to fill our minds.... "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable ---- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy --- think about such things" (Phil.4:8).
