Advice From the Experienced One

"All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble' Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time" (1 Pet.5:5-6).

Unalike Judas, who could not live with his sin, Peter had a godly sorrow that led to repentance. Many years later, he wrote the above verses that can prevent us from making the same mistakes that he did. Today's verses give us the impetus to live a life of humility rather than pride. There is an old term that has work on the railroad as its origin, called "falling asleep at the switch." Peter writes; "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (V 8). Lack of pride and laziness can lead us to become cowards, and to this Peter says; "However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name." (1 Pet.4:16). The apostle Paul said that he was not ashamed of the gospel because it was the power of God to salvation... When people are afraid, they can easily be sucked back into the world, and Peter addresses that too... "Abstain from sinful desires which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God....." (1 Pet.2:11-12). As Christians, we are destined for greater things than those of the world. Finally, there is that denial thing... The more important Jesus becomes to us, the more we will want to be like Him and with Him. When people become fans of a particular team, they not only take pride in that team, but they defend them. Peter tells us to do just that when it comes to our faith... "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect" (1 Pet.3:15). When we're doing it right, people will notice, and that's our opportunity to defend Jesus instead of denying Him. As I look at Peter and his writings, its almost as if he lets us know in a special way of the things we must do to not make the mistakes that he did. Lets all listen and learn....

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
