Working To Serve

"You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'" (Acts 20:34-35).

The apostle Paul was willing to make an example of himself as we read in today's verses. There is a similar writing in Acts 18:1-3. It might be worthwhile to note here that we cannot find the exact phrase, "it is more blessed to give than to receive" in any of the gospels. Since Paul quoted the words as Jesus' we can be sure that he said them in that we know that he said many things that have not been recorded in the gospels... (Jn.20:30). I find that there are two wrong ways to approach work. First by doing nothing with the talents God has given to us. Many are too fearful of pursuing what they are truly passionate about and never really bother to find out what their real skills are. They may end up wasting their talents by doing nothing at all, or merely what is safe... The second way is to use the talents given to us for selfish gain only. So many people use their talents only to accumulate wealth or to control people or things around them. This will always lead to eventual emptiness and dissatisfaction... The right approach is in the utilization of our talents by serving the Lord. This may not make perfect sense to the non-Christian, but it should be completely logical to us... Paul's work that he talks about in today's verses (he worked while in Corinth and Thessalonica) is always related to his ministry. Ours should be too! Though we are probably not ministers or missionaries, we still have a ministry... Our ministry is to serve God with all of our talents, giving Him the glory. Our ministry message is that Jesus has saved us through His teachings, death, burial, and resurrection... He has given us the talents, lets use them for Him... Lets work to serve, and serve in our work...

Have a wonderful day... Do Good... Give Him the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
