Literate Churches And Communities

"In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's Word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!" (Heb 5:12)

If you are of my generation, you might have watched the TV show Dragnet. When interviewing someone, Joe Friday's mantra was, "just the facts." Churches often languish for teachers because of a lack of knowledge. All within a church ought to aspire to be teachers on some level. It has its requirements however, and one of those important requirements is a diligent study of God's Word.. Unfortunately, churches can also be led astray by false teachers or false doctrine. This can only happen when the body of believers allow it to br by not reading, studying, and meditating enough... Within our communities, the effect of biblical illiteracy is more profound. The prophet Isaiah put it this way: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter" (5:20). When there is no biblical literacy, morals often become skewed, were things become acceptable to people that are not acceptable to God. Divorce is made easy, adultery is looked upon casually, and fornication is just an affair or a relationship. This may be smiled upon by a worldly society, but God and his moral people take exception... Because of bible illiteracy, bad behavior eats at the very fiber of families and communities, depriving children of the kind of parenting that they deserve. Before Israel had kings, they were guided by judges. A judge would become necessary because the people were messing up... Here are the precise words... "In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit" (Judg.21:25). Christians should desire to know as much about God's will as they possibly can. When something happens to our car, we seek out a mechanic. In our homes we might need an electrician, plumber, or carpenter from time to time. When it comes to biblical morality based upon Bible literacy, we ought to be the professionals... How we go about fixing this problem tomorrow...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
