The End Is Near

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall we send?' 'And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!' " (Isa.6:8)

The very cool words that are spoken in today's verse are uttered by God and the prophet Isaiah. There is such a wonderful confidence in Isaiah that it would be good for us to emulate, but that might be for another day. Isaiah was a prophet. The New Testament Book of Hebrews tells us the role of the prophets in that day. "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times in various ways" (1:1).

Have you ever watched one of those end-of-the-world movies. The prophet who is predicting the end is usually some weird and crazy looking guy on the street corner with a sign and perhaps a bullhorn... Prophets in the Bible weren't exactly like that, but the image might not be too far-fetched. From the petrified Jonah, to Ezekiel, who even performed some theater by doing the same act every day for a year, they might have looked and acted just a bit eccentric... They may have seemed tad odd, but they were not crazy... Isaiah was one of the outstanding prophets of the Old Testament, and we conjure up the same vision of him as one does the present day guys, as he predicted among other things, the coming punishment of Israel unless they turned back to God... When many people think of prophecy, predicting the future immediately comes to mind. Very often, biblical prophecy was conditional. It went something like this; "If you keep worshiping idols, you will be destroyed....If you turn back to God, He will show you mercy..." Jesus is the greatest of the prophets, and He also spoke about our future. If we want our lives to be filled with love, hope, joy, and peace, we must also put aside idols and worship only Him... The prophets of old had the same message years ago that still rings through the corridors of time. It is that God wants a relationship with His people, but it must be on His terms. God always waits with open arms, we must be obedient to Him to come into those arms. My title today is not as far off as its attention-getting purpose. To have our future insured, lets listen to the message of the prophets... God needs and wants good people... Maybe one day we'll be able to say.... "Send me!"

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
