One Last Brother Thing

"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (Jn.13:35).

I think that it should be clear to all of us that our attitude toward our brothers ought to be rooted in love. Jesus set the tone for us when He uttered the command that appears just before today's verse... "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (V 34). When we put the two verses together, it is plain to see what Jesus is talking about. Love is just a word if it is not brought to completion by actions. Jesus wants us to let the world know that we are His disciples, and we show this through our love put into action. For example, if our brother is overtaken in a fault, do we just turn our heads the other way or try to help? Do we allow them to drift away with merely a cursory thought, or are we trying to "consider how we can stimulate them on toward love and good deeds?" (Heb.10:24) Do we have the desire to exhort and encourage our brethren before they get entangled in sin. We can only do this if we get to know them well enough... "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you might be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin" (Heb.3:13). If we love them the way Jesus tells us to, we'll approach them in humility, remembering that such encouragement is supposed to be a daily activity. Do we allow ourselves to be inconvenienced to the extent that we are willing to bear each other's burdens to make them stronger, or would we rather not be bothered? Finally, when we have acted like brothers are supposed to, do we forgive them when they repent? "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you" (Eph.4:32). This means that we are to communicate a willingness to welcome them back with open arms and offer the complete forgiveness that God offers to us. We have the wonderful blessing to be a part of a loving family. Lets be sure that we carry out our responsibilities as loving members...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
