A Degree Of Separation

"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt.6:20-21).

How many people do you come into contact with each day? Do you see new ones from time to time? Jesus lived in the world, just as we do. He looked around and saw folks who were living for the day. Regular, ordinary people who were worshiping at the shrine of money, sex, and fame. The investments they had made were revolving around the temporary things of life, and He was able to see emptiness in their hearts. Today's verses are His advice to those people who's lives were wrapped up in only today... Jesus wanted them to refocus... To focus themselves on things of much greater importance... Everything that is in and of the earth, whether relationships we build or material possessions will one day end. While there is certainly nothing wrong with the finer things of life and enjoying time with family and friends, they are temporary... The things of a spiritual nature are permanent, and it would be wise for folks to put their treasures in heaven, just like Jesus explains in the Sermon on the Mount... Though Jesus was human, He often did not blend or fit in? Do you think that the human part of Him might have occasionally wanted to? He overcame this temptation by remembering His obligation to spread the Word of God. We have the same duty... We should never grow ashamed of our faith in Jesus and His teachings. Though the pleasures of life are all about us, we should not make them our priority. It is important that we establish a degree of separation...

Have a great day... Do good, give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
