Just This Once?

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life" (Gal.6:7-8).

In the classic 1976 movie Rocky, his manager Mickey gives him some advice as he is training for the championship fight... Mickey doesn't want Rocky to be with his new girlfriend, so the advice is simple and to the point... "Women weaken legs...." The armor (Eph.6:10-11) I wrote about yesterday is intended to protect us from our weaknesses. The Lord wants us to maintain our spiritual strength even though we face challenges to do so every day.. Today's verses give us an example. The apostle Paul gives us some very important advice.... "the one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction." This is not the first time that the sowing/reaping analogy is used. Paul is letting us know that when we sow to the sinful aspect of things, only bad things will result... Caving in to human desires will take us down the wrong path all the time, and just once usually leads to more. Again, using a Mickey-like term... "Self-indulgence weakens your life!" To keep this from happening we need the armor. To maintain spiritual strength we must keep our commitments.. The armor we are to wear is the breastplate of righteousness, and feet fitted with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. We should be shielded by faith, with a helmet of salvation. The last piece of protection is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.... These things should keep us from getting too wrapped up in ourselves to the point that we cannot please God. Peter states it this way; "Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because He who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God" (1 Pet.4:1-2). Just this once, is often one time too much...

Have a great day... Go good and give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
