Careful Now

"From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied" (Prov.18:20).

Today's verse is much like the one in Gal.6:7... "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows..." What a person says reflects those things that are in their hearts. It is why we need to guard our lips so carefully. Often we allow things out that we should not. Just as with the sowing/reaping principle, we will have to live with the consequences of everything we say. In order to maintain our spiritual strength we must keep our promises. Part of that is to make sure that our speech is clean and pure and comes from our heart... Carelessness of speech can and will weaken our lives. The story of Samson and Delilah unfolds in the sixteenth chapter of the Book of Judges. Samson had a weakness for women and it says that he fell in love with Delilah. She would get 1,100 shekels of silver from the Philistines if she could reveal the source of Samson's strength to them. She wasn't coy with him and asked him directly. His first answer to her was a lie, and when she tried it, he easily broke loose of the bonds. You would think that he would have understood her treachery when she asked a second and third time, but he did not. Two more times he lied to her, but she did not give up and nagged him constantly until he tired of it and told her the truth. You know the rest of the story...Carelessness of speech did Samson in. The psalmist talks about the "one who keeps his oath even when it hurts..." (15:4). The problem often lies in the child-like attitude that we often carry into adulthood... It says to us: "It will be different for me.." Well, the truth be told, it is not different for us. If we want to maintain out spiritual strength, we must always be careful with the things that we say because those things always reveal what is in our hearts... Lets be careful...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
