Who's In Charge

"Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you" (Isa 46:4).

Life is filled with uncertainties, joy, hardship, and calamity. As people make their way from the cradle to the grave, they are confronted with age old, sobering questions... Who or what is it that influences or perhaps controls the unfolding of events? Do the affairs of humans mirror some struggles between supernatural forces of gods of various sorts? Do these forces, both of a benevolent and malignant nature make impositions on human matters, or is it possible that they unfold with absolutely no design at all? Is it what people call luck, fate, or chance that is the driving force? Finally, does the choice humans make have anything to do with what appear to be random events? The big question is encapsulated in my title today... Just who is in charge, anyway? In the context of today's verse, Isaiah is prophesying to the people regarding their captivity by the Babylonians. The Jews would go into exile because they lost track of the questions I posed today, and thought that some other gods might be at work instead of God Almighty. The questions that I listed provide the framework for the biblical story... No matter what the Bible is to certain people, it provides us with the affirmation that God is One and He does reign in the lives of man... When Israel forgot God, true to His covenant with them, ruin followed. Isaiah addressed that age old question of who's in charge with eloquence and accuracy. Through it all, God did not give up on His people. His desire all along was to bring them home. No matter what questions that man might pose regarding how things shake down here on earth today, make no mistake.... God is in charge and He wants to bring us home..

Have a great start to your week.. Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
