For The Beauty Of The Earth

"For the beauty of the earth, For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies:
For the beauty of each hour Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree, and flower, Sun and moon and stars of light:
Lord of all to thee we raise This our sacrifice of praise.
"

From For the Beauty of the Earth... Folliot S. Pierpoint 1864

It has been a long week around here, as we had a memorial service for our brother Steve last night. Our auditorium was filled with family and friends as we celebrated a Christian life well-lived. I felt the need to commune with nature this morning, so we got up at 4:30 AM ( the reason the devotional is late) and went to the beach in Brigantine to see the sunrise... Unfortunately it is still very foggy out, so we enjoyed our walk on the beach, but did not get to view a sunrise. At 5:50, we looked to the east over the ocean and pretended that we saw it... "The earth is the Lord's, and all it contains..." (Psa.24;1). The KJV of this passage is: "The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein..." Do you think sometime about just what our role is in the grand scheme of things? Any way we shake it out, the earth is the Lord's creation, and so are we. Because the earth is the Lord's, we are the caretakers or stewards. We should be committed to the proper management of this world and its resources. The most important resources are the people. It is our job to enrich the lives of others through our godly example. Walking on the beach this morning let me know that our God is in charge. That the beauty is not only in the skies or of each hour of the day and night. It is not only the hill, vale, tree, or flower. The beauty is not only the sun and moon and stars of light. The beauty is in our relationship with the Lord... The beauty is in our relationship with those around us... "For Thy church that evermore Lift-eth holy hands above, Offering up on every shore Her pure sacrifice of love..." Lets not be afraid to wake up each morning in awe of God's mighty works. There is a sunrise and sunset to enjoy each and every day.. Lets enjoy the time we spend with loved ones... Lets be the stewards and caretakers that He wants us to be.... "Lord of all to Thee we raise This our sacrifice of praise...."

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better.... Love mark Phil.4:11
