Back To God Through Prayer

"Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps He will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart" (Acts 8:22).

We have been dealing with Jesus' second law of pardon the past two days. The first law of pardon is how a person gets to God and becomes a Christian, while the second deals with how an erring one gets back to God after sinning. In today's verse, the apostle Peter is chastising the man we have come to know as Simon the Sorcerer for trying to buy the ability that only the apostles had. You might want to read and meditate on the story in Acts 8:9-24... Baptism is an act of faith in which a person makes an appeal to God for salvation. A Christian does not have to be baptized over and over again to get back to God, but needs to first repent. According to today's verse, the erring Christian is to then pray as an act of faith as they appeal for forgiveness. The difference is clear... Before baptism, one is not a child of God, but after being baptized, prayer becomes a privilege for those who are God's children. Praying is such an effective way to get to God because of our two intercessors, Jesus and the Holy Spirit... Because Jesus walked on the earth as a man, He understands our feelings and our need to get back with the Father. The Holy Spirit is able to communicate those feelings into a humble and effective plea to the Father... We are to pray with humility and a contrite spirit... "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psa.34:18). Having repented, the wayward Christian needs to humbly pray to God for forgiveness and the desire to come back home.. Part three tomorrow...

Have a great day... Let Jesus' light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
