God's Tattoo

"Behold, I have inscribed (engraved in NIV) you on the palms of my hands..." (Isa.49:16).

It would seem that tattoos have been the rage in the USA for several years now. I want to go on record here that this devotional will not make a case for or against tattoos. In many arenas it is now called "body art." Many of the people of my generation who have tattoos are former members of the military. A buddy of mine confided in me that he doesn't precisely remember getting one of his, but that's another story. Those military men usually had tattoos done as a reminder of home, with mom probably heading this list, and a girlfriend's name probably number two... Most of the people I know that have tattoos can explain why they have chosen a particular piece of artwork to adorn their bodies. One can readily see the problem with a person tattooing the name of a boyfriend or girlfriend on their bodies... If that person is not permanent, you can be stuck with a piece of artwork that is no longer applicable. What we do know about tattoos is that they are permanent, so we now come to "God's Tattoo..." God wanted the children of Israel to understand the permanency of His love for them. Unalike the love His people had for Him, God's love was unchanging, permanent, and invariable. "I have tattooed you on the palms of my hands..." Even when His people disobeyed Him and had to be punished, His love did not waver because it was inscribed in the palms of His hands. Even when they did some of the vilest things, He had the desire for them to change their ways and come back to Him. As bad as they sometimes were, He had the prophet Isaiah write this.... "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will never forget you!" (49:15) When we become children of God, I think that He does the same thing with us... He always wants us to come back home... He always wants us to know that His love is permanent... More tomorrow...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
