One More Tattoo

"See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands..." (Isa.49:16).

Rancher's who raised cattle would often "brand" them with a hot iron. The permanent mark they made was theirs alone, so that they would not be confused with another rancher's stock. The rancher would never think of branding himself... In the days of slavery, the slave-owner would often put some indelible mark on the slave to denote his ownership. In today's verse, which I also used yesterday, we find a serious role-reversal. The slave-owner (God) is branding or tattooing himself as a mark of his allegiance to His people. Jesus does that same thing for us when we become Christians. He then sees that our names are written in the book of life... In speaking through the prophet Jeremiah, God says this: "I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts" (31:33). The writer of the Book of Hebrews quotes this verse, with a bit more... "The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this, First he says: 'This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds. Then he adds: Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more'" (10:15-17). It would appear that the master and the servant are both tattooed! We should have our minds and hearts branded with pride, because we belong to the Lord. Through Jesus, He has redeemed us. Jesus has the indelible marks on Him left by the nails of the cross. We should willingly bear His mark in our hearts because that is where the treasure of Jesus ought to reside... "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt.6:21). We don't need to tattoo Jesus on the outside of us, but on our hearts. Our service to Him and others will be our body art...

Have a great day... Do good... Give God the credit... Love mark Phil.4:11
