Over-Committment

"But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made..... My sister has left me to do all the work...." (Lk.10:40)

We have a perfect example of the stresses of life in the story about Mary and Martha. Both of them wanted to do good, but can we sometimes get distracted even by the good that we do if we don't involve ourselves with the better? What I'm saying here is that in a life where so many things compete for our time, even good things, we can forget our priorities... In respect to doing good deeds, and we should do them, but we can have so much output that there is not enough time for replenishment and spiritual growth. Its kind of like using our car for doing so many things and forgetting to do the maintenance necessary to keep it running well. It is a rarity for us to increase productivity by neglecting maintenance time. Simply put, we cannot live our spiritual lives in a functional manner without spending some quiet time with the Lord... Just like our cars, we must refuel from time to time... Running on empty is a sad way to go through life... While we are busy with this and busy with that, our spiritual lives may shrivel up and perhaps disappear... Instead of experiencing burnout, we run the danger of becoming a bottle of Coca Cola that has had the cap removed... It will be a fizzle out... I'm not saying that we ought to stop doing good.. We just need to remember where the source of energy for doing that good comes from and stay connected to it with prayer, meditation, and study... A bit more on this tomorrow...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
