Jesus - The Example of Private Devotion

"Then Jesus entered a house, and a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples were not even able to eat" (Matt.3:20).

Today's verse is not an atypical day in the life of Jesus, but rather the norm. He did not live the idyllic life of a roaming teacher, but one in which He was in constant demand. The crowds pressed in on Him so closely, that He had to go into a boat to preach on one occasion.. It was once so crowded that a woman touched him for healing (Mk.6:30-32) and He responded, "Who touched my clothes?'" I find it most interesting, that with all the hub-bub of the daily pressure from the people, Jesus always found the time to be alone with God... "When Jesus heard what had happened, He withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place" (Matt.14:13)... "After He dismissed them, He went up into the mountainside by Himself to pray" (Matt.14:23). Apparently, these were not just random times, but a good habit that Jesus got into... He always found the time to be alone with His Father. In this way He shows us that even when one is busy, it is possible to take the time necessary to commune with the Father... We must learn to distinguish between the urgent and the important, and devote adequate time for the latter... We can turn off the TV, PD, or computer for a long enough time to spend some quality time with the Lord. We need to find the "eye" of the storm that our lives may seem like, to find that calm center of spiritual devotion... If you are reading this devotional right now, it is a good start to a period of meditation with the Lord.. Lets all build some quiet spaces somewhere in there among our many other activities.... A time for God...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
