A New Old Idea - Rest

"Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience" (Heb.4:11).

I wonder if you've ever noticed that certain words carry with them a particular emotion... For example, if we use words like "agitated" or "frustrated." If we say these words in conversation, we might see an arched eyebrow or even a curled upper lip. Its as if by just saying them that there is an angry tune that comes along with them. Try it today... Say the word frustrate to someone beside you... It looks and feels to the other person that you are.... well.... "frustrated..." Have you ever listened to people speaking to one another in a foreign language. Because we don't understand them, the words come out rapidly, and it seems like they are angry with one another. When I go to my favorite Chinese restaurant and place my order, the owner barks it back to the cooks like a drill sergeant, in what seems to be anger. The cooks are unfazed by her tone, and the order always comes out right... While agitate and frustrate may evoke negative emotions, how about the word rest? The word rest rolls off the tongue easily. relaxes the eye, and softens the face... I have some doves in my backyard that coo... Its such a relaxing sound.... Just say the word, rest... It feels good, doesn't it... We can imagine ourselves in our favorite resting place, as we feel peaceful, calm, and relaxed. As the pace of life has grown more fast-paced, people may find themselves working harder, playing less, eating fast and cheap, and sleeping too little... This is an unfortunate formula for a generation that needs all that rest can offer... quiet, peace, rejuvenation, security, and regeneration... The Book of Hebrews 4:1-11 might be good to read and meditate upon. God knows what we need, and He provides it to those who will come after Him... Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who are wearied and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt.11:29). We ought to take Him up on it...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
