The Need For Grace

"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task --- the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace" (Acts 20:24).

Most of you know that the word "gospel" means good news, and that "grace" means unmerited favor. The apostle Paul included both of these in today's powerful verse about his mission on earth. He said that his task was to testify about the gospel of God's grace... His ministry was that God had provided a way of salvation for sinners... The gospel! The other part of his ministry was that God had also done this without requiring merit on the part of sinners... God's grace! In many places, the Bible describes man's true condition. It may start with "all have sinned and fall short of God's glory" (Rom.3:23). Isaiah clearly states that "your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear" (59:2). What these and other passages mean is that we must all plead guilty to the Lord. We are just not good enough to get into His kingdom, and even the very best of us is without merit in God's sight. It means that our sins have alienated us from God, and because of these transgressions we lose that precious relationship with Him. It means that as sinners, we have no way to accomplish the removal of our own guilt of sin... We cannot be deceived by notions of our own goodness, and it is fair to say that the first requirement of salvation is the recognition of our own true guilt... Though the picture I've painted may seem bleak, it is about the wonder of our need for God's grace... Through our belief and obedience, God covers it all with His grace through Jesus Christ... Powerful, isn't it....

Have a great day... Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil.4:11
