Who Gets The Hand

"For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and the observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel" (Ezra 7:10).

I hope by now that all of you are just a bit intrigued with this idea about the hand of the Lord... The verse previous to today's (9) says "for the gracious hand of God was on him..." Notice that the first word of today's verse is the preposition "for." One of the reasons that God's hand was upon Ezra was that he was willing to do the "prep work." Reaping never happens without first making all the necessary preparations. Ezra had prepared his heart by studying and observing the Law of the Lord. He not only studied and observed it, but he did it to the extent that he was able to teach its laws and decrees in Israel.. Ezra had made himself useful to the Lord through his diligent study and preparation. The apostle Paul said this to Timothy: "If a man cleanses himself of the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the master and prepared to do any good work" (2 Tim.2:21). I think a second reason that the hand of the Lord was upon Ezra involved his seeking. Ezra actually sought out the Lord by prayer and fasting. He believed that God's hand would be upon him because of this pro active stance he took... Ezra believed that God rewarded those who diligently seek Him, and without a doubt, this pleased God... The writer of the Book of Hebrews said: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him.." (11:6). The hand of God was on Ezra and can be on us, if we prepare ourselves through the study and meditation of His Word and if we actively seek Him... Two more reasons tomorrow...
