Seven Times And A Shout

"On the 7th day, march around the city seven times, with the priest blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout...." (Josh.6:4-5).

If you are a bit familiar with the Bible, today's verse is a part of the instruction given to Joshua as the people had reached the promised land. The city they were to march around was Jericho, and the previous instruction before today's verse was as seemingly weird as it was. If we read on, we know that the results were the collapse of the great wall surrounding Jericho. "They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and a shadow of what is in heaven. This why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: 'See that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain'" (Heb.8:5). When I teach teen classes about the destruction of Jericho, a question I often ask is this; "Why did the wall collapse? Was it because of the unusual marching, trumpet blowing and shouting, or was it just God?" As a teacher, I love the question and I enjoy having them ponder over the answer. The conclusion that we all come to is that is was both... God did the collapsing, but it was the people's faith in doing something completely out of the box that made it happen. They did exactly what God told them to do! Another cool question to ask is whether the wall would have collapsed if they marched around one less time... God wants us to have a faith in Him that is without modification. The verse from Heb,8:5 is an illustration of God's exactitude... It is very important for us to do all things according to the pattern if we want a relationship with God. He is God, and we are not! He wants to respond to our prayers, but first wants us to be humble, trusting, and righteous in our attitude... God's silence is significant and must always be respected.... For our faith to be strong and powerful, we have to realize that it is based on God's terms... Its always seven times and a shout...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
