The Faith That Gets Us Through

"..... who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, now this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also --- not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ...." (1 Pet.3:20-21).

In the sixth chapter of Genesis, we find a corrupt world in which God found favor in only Noah. The account tells us about a powerful faith that Noah had, as he followed God's instructions completely. Like yesterday's account of Joshua and the city of Jericho, someone followed God's orders even though they didn't seem to make any sense. In both cases, two things saved those who obeyed... Faith and obedience.... The faith exhibited by Noah and Joshua is the only kind that saves. As we fast forward to today's verses, the apostle Peter calls us to have that same saving faith. He says that those who disobeyed in the days of Noah were destroyed, and only those of a strong faith followed by a powerful obedience were saved. It is clear to me that Peter is comparing the flood to baptism. The flood was a figure of baptism in that in both instances the water that spoke of judgement ( in the flood the death of the wicked, in baptism the death of Christ and the believer ) is the water that saves. Baptism is a symbol of salvation in that it depicts Christ's death, burial, and resurrection and our identification with Him.."Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life" (Rom.6:3-4). God appeals to us to have enough faith to see our way through to salvation. He says to take that faith and turn it into obedience. Just as Noah and Joshua had faith that was an obedient trust in God, our faith must have those same characteristics... It is the faith that gets us through...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
