Calling The Shot

"I make known the end from the beginning, the ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please" (Isa.46:10).

There is a lot of lore surrounding the game of professional baseball, but none more intriguing than what happened on a sunny October 1st World Series game in Chicago between the Yankees and Cubs. With the score tied at 4 to 4 in the 5th inning the famous Babe Ruth steps up to the plate and endures the derision from both the opposing players and the fans. With the count at 2 and 2, Ruth supposedly points to center field. On the next pitch he hits a long home run over the fence to the point at which he was pointing. There is much conjecture as to whether or not this happened, but all die hard baseball fans know the story. The event is known by "The Called Shot." When it come to Biblical prophecy, there are two ways to look at it and both are valid. The first way looks at prophecy as predicting events that will happen in the future. The second looks at it as a promise that someone has the power to fulfill..... God! Today's verse is a part of a speech made by God in the Book of Isaiah, and is a reminder that when God makes a promise, He always has the power to fulfill it. Babe Ruth was one of baseball's legendary players who hit a lot of home runs, so the story of The Called Shot has a plausibility to it. In the Book of Isaiah, God has promised to deliver Israel from the Babylonian captivity, just as He had done when they were delivered from Egypt. What's the lesson for us here? "This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim.2:3-4). God is still calling the shots, and He promises to deliver each of us. The great thing is that he has the power to do it.... There is no lore about this, just the gospel facts...

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
