Our ID

"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!' I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: 'Father I have sinned against you.....'" (Lk.15:17).

If today's passage sounds familiar to you, it is from the Parable of the Prodigal Son. After making several bad choices, the young man finally makes a good one in deciding to come back home. He is ready to humble himself to the point where he would become one of his dad's hired people. What I want us all to notice, however, is what precipitated his decisiveness... "When he came to his senses..." He had been living in a way in which he was not accustomed to and thinking it was alright, and his despair allowed reality to hit him between the eyes. When he came to his senses he realized the truth of who he was and where he needed to be. All of us are greatly affected by the way we think about ourselves. Its something called self-concept, and it is our sense of personal identity... Our ID... If we want to have a really quality relationship with the Lord, which to me means a quality life, we have to come to grips with who we actually are. We looked at Gen.1:27 yesterday which told us that we are not only created beings, but created in the image of God beings... God is a personal being, thus we are too. The difference between us and all the other life on earth is a qualitative rather than a quantitative thing. It is not about the number of cells that our bodies contain or even the complexity of that combination that makes us different. What we are is a totally different order of being altogether. Since we have been created in God's own image as personal beings, there is a central thread that should run through our lives, and that is our relationship with the God who created us. Solomon concluded all this as he finished the Book of Ecclesiastes, and it might be good for us to read and meditate upon the last six verses.... God stamps us with an ID and its up to us to come to our senses and desire to come home....

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
