Our Gyroscope

"Indeed, the very hairs on your head are numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows" (Lk.12:7) "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psa.119:105).

Did any of you have a gyroscope toy as a kid? I did, though I must admit that I didn't really understand what it was all about until years later. Let me throw a bit of science at you... Based on the principle of angular motion, a gyroscope is used to maintain directional orientation... If that's a bit much, it more simply means that it is used to keep stuff going in the right direction. I will use this in a metaphoric sense this morning by saying that as God's created people, we have an internal gyroscope of external worth. The two scriptures above are a part of my rationale. The verse from Luke says that God cares deeply and equally about His people. The one from Psalms tells us about His Word that is designed to guide us along our way... Though each person has equal worth as a person, each is uniquely significant. This means that no two people are exactly the same, so equal does not mean sameness. We are all a unique blend of strengths and weaknesses. In life we are to accentuate and use those strengths and try to improve on the weaknesses. Knowing that God loves us makes our value intrinsic as we know that we are His created in His image... It would do us all good to keep focused on what we are each worth as His people. That's where the gyroscope comes in. Did you ever go into a house of mirrors at a circus or carnival. Those mirrors distort what we really look like, just like society's mirror does. We must base our self-concept of worth on God's scale, not man's, by utilizing that moral gyroscope to keep us on track... Hmmmmmmm.... A coexistence of God and science? I like that...

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
