Taking Responsibility

"Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our hearts find no rest until they rest in thee" (Confessions Book 1 by St. Augustine)

As people who are created in the image of God, the awesome thought of the free will that we have is mind-boggling... As we reflect about just who we are as God's people, we must temper that reflection with sober judgement. "For by the grace given to me I say to everyone of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you" (Rom.12:3). If we take the word responsibility apart, we might look at it as the ability to respond. The sober judgement that the apostle Paul writes about in the above scripture, should cause us to contemplate just how we think about ourselves. The writer of the Book of Hebrews puts it this way: "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account" (12:3). As a child created in God's image, my eternal destiny rests on the choices that I make every day. See if this makes sense to you.... Nothing I do can actually lowers my value, but what I can do is waste that value and throw it away... The question of responsibility about how I live my life, and my destiny, rests squarely on my own shoulders. God has created me in His image so I must constantly look at myself to see if I am owning up to that responsibility... "Jesus loves me! this I know, For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but he is strong... Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus love me! The Bible tells me so...." (Anna B. Warner 1860)
