Knowing How You Feel

"For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him" (Isa.53:2).

Sometimes people do things that are just plain mean. It is not unusual for folks to exclude others because of their looks, wealth, family history, or that ever present popularity. If you have ever been on the outside looking in, you know what I am alluding to, and know that it doesn't feel good. It can leave a person feeling isolated and actually wondering whether anyone really cares. Often this starts in people's early years and can extend into adulthood. According to today's verse, a Messianic prophecy, Jesus experienced the same kind of judgement that some of us might feel today. The next verse says: "He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised and we did not esteem Him..." It would seem that many did not find Him to be an attractive person and Nathaniel, a disciple to be said, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" (Jn.1:46). Somehow, despite all of this, Jesus loved people passionately, even those who persecuted Him... He was able to look through the facade of their rough exteriors and see them as God's created beings... Some might just grin and bear this treatment, but Jesus did not. Instead He taught them and healed them and actually said, "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Jn.5:44). Jesus truly knows how we feel. More than that, He set the tone for how we ought to feel about others. He lived out His message in real life, and we must also...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
