Building With Jesus

"The Spirit of The Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor...." (Isa.61:1-2)

After Jesus was tempted by Satan, He returned to Galilee and preached in the synagogues. He then returned to Nazareth and in the synagogue He unrolled a scroll and read today's exact scriptures from Isaiah. (Lk.4:18-19). He then rolled the scroll back up, and with the eyes of everyone in the synagogue upon Him said: "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" (V 21). In Isaiah, the prophet was talking about the people's return from captivity and the rebuilding of the city and temple. But he was also telling about a new building that was coming about 750 years in the future. I think this is the reason that Jesus read the verses and proclaimed Himself to be that very structure... Think about it... He literally gave sight to the blind, preached the gospel to the poor, and set everyone free from the chains of sin. The new thing that God was doing was expanding His kingdom to all nations through Jesus, the Son of God. The Jewish exiles would return from their captivity and literally rebuild the city and temple, but the perfect city was to be built by Jesus. The inhabitants of that city? "So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others" (Rom.12:5). Those would be us! Christians, then, are included in the building of this perfect city, but the inclusion comes with responsibilities... Since we are using the Book of Isaiah as a backdrop, we must be careful not to fall into the same habits that led the Jews into exile. As co-builders of the new city, another important responsibility is to follow the lead of its head. Lets always remember... We are the body, and Jesus is the head. He calls all the shots... He makes all the decisions.... Our job is to obey and serve.. Its great to be a part of such a wonderful city, don't you think?

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
