Our Prized Possession(s)

"When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong! When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he accept you? says the Lord Almighty." (Mic.1:8).

It was clear to the Israelites that when they brought animals for sacrifice, that they were to be unblemished. (Lev.1:3) God wanted the good stuff, because then it would be a sacrifice... Today, when it comes to money or material things, most of us understand that the Lord's work can require sacrifice. Money of course is valuable, but it is not to be used as a salve. Many charitable organizations claim that most people will write a check to support a cause rather than donating just a small amount of their time... The apostle Paul put it his way: "Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, but I will not be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you." (2 Cor.12:14) Paul looks at a possession that is even more precious that material gifts.... TIME.... Many people will occasionally sacrifice the having of certain things, and I am not saying that this isn't good, but how many of us let the Lord stand in the way of something we really want to do? It would seem that so many have more of a problem with the sacrifice of what is in reality our most prized possession, our precious time... I'm not saying that all of us are not in need of some down time periodically, but if the Lord's work conflicts with any of our activities, which wins out? If everyone took that attitude all of the time, just when would God's stuff get done? Just as with material things, time is one of those commodities we have that is on loan from God. We are allotted only a certain amount and it would seem that our salvation is contingent on how we use it. There is a play in baseball called the sacrifice bunt. The batter actually gives himself up in order to advance a runner, thus increasing the chance for his team to score a run. A little introspection is good for all of us... We might just consider whether or not we are giving as much of our time to the Lord that we ought to be. We need to think more about the team....

Have a great day... Do good... Give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
