Credit Where Credit Is Due

"I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols" (Isa.42:8).

I would look at today's verse and conclude that God is almost what we might call possessive here. He is not possessive in a selfish way, but rather in a just one. He wants all the world to know Him. After all, He is the Creator and Redeemer of the world and He should get all the credit. Israel had been blessed with a special purpose, and that was to bless the world. It was God's message to Abraham in Genesis 22, but somewhere along the way, Israel missed the point. They were intended to be a light to all the nations, but instead they found themselves blind and stumbling. "You are a light to the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.... In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (Matt.5:14 & 16). These verses echo today's verse from Isaiah. When people see our good works, they ought to glorify God. Christians are often hesitant to share their faith with people, especially those they do not know... If we are living our lives in the way God called us to, the world will ask us why we do what we do... "How come you're so gracious?" "Why do you spend time visiting the sick?" "Why do you help the poor?" "How come you spend so much time with that elderly person?" Here is a really big one... "Why do you forgive people who hurt you?" Those questions are prompts for us to witness about Jesus Christ. Jesus died to bring justice into the world, both for my sake and yours, and I am free to live like this. How will the world know to glorify God for your good works unless you tell them? How will they know when to give credit when credit is due?

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
