The Blind Spots

"The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray" (Gal.2:13)

Have you ever been traveling down a multi-lane highway and begin to change lanes to pass someone, only to find that a car had kind of sneaked up on you. We may attribute it to what we call a "blind spot" in our field of vision, but perhaps it was just an attention lapse. We can truly develope blind spots in our assessment about ourselves and things around us if we are not careful... Today's verse pertains to something that Peter did that was wrong. "Before certain men who came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles..." Peter knew the truth that all Christians, whether Jews or Gentiles were equal, but allowed himself to be influenced to the contrary. Paul had to confront him to bring him to bring him back to his senses. Despite our self-knowledge, we can sometimes be poor judges of ourselves. The metals we find in common use today like iron, copper, and aluminum have been locked up in ores in the earth since its creation. Technology had to develope for us to extract those raw materials from their ores before they were usable. All of the "raw materials" for our self-knowledge are there, but sometimes we are just not as candid or objective as we should be about our own situations. Unfortunately, when it comes to our own faults, we make mistakes and even may euphemize the very essence of our own conduct. Though knowing ourselves is essential, those blind spots can make those faults obvious to others, though invisible to ourselves. What we truly need is to see ourselves the way God sees us, so sometimes God will allow others to get us on the right path. He sent Paul to Peter to reveal the truth. He sent Nathan to King David regarding his adulterous conduct, and prophets to the people to get them to see their faults and repent... Maybe that's just what we need to get rid of those pesky blind spots...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
