Perfect Attendance

"We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away" (Heb.2:1).

After having all my childhood diseases, like measles and chicken pox, seemingly done by the fourth grade, I went on a streak of perfect school attendance from the the fifth grade through my junior year of high school. Though my academics weren't what they should have been, I would hopefully get a certificate at graduation for eight straight years of perfect attendance... I didn't count on those pesky mumps that I got in November of my senior year. It would seem that the more one attends, the more careful attention to what we have heard can take place. The writer of the Book of Hebrews has a specific idea in today's verse when it comes to paying closer attention, saying "so that we won't drift away..." Falling away is something that rarely happens in an instant. As a result, people must pay close attention at all times, as it is often a drifting process. I like to tell the story about being out in the bay in my boat with my dad many years ago. I was in the water clamming while he was fishing in the anchored boat. I was paying attention to my work in the water and did not notice that the boat was getting farther and farther away. The anchor had come loose from the bottom, and my dad was gradually drifting away from me. It took about ten minutes of hard work for me to "recapture" the boat. No one is exempt from the need for caution and carefulness... If we are to maintain a close relationship with the Lord, diligence is a key factor. The boat did not get far from me in an instant, but drifted slowly away... It is why we must always be aware of what is going on around us that could possibly pull us away... "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away...." You know.... Perfect attendance...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
