Salvation's If

"All this I have spoken to you while still with you, But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you" (Jn.14:25-26).

There are many things in life that we take for granted, and many that we don't. If I asked you to make a list of both things, I am sure that they would be quite extensive. I think it is OK to take those things for granted that are very predictable... Because of the cyclic nature of our universe, we can predict tides, sunrises, changes of seasons, and eclipses with exactitude... We don't do such a good job with earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes... God has promised us salvation through Jesus Christ, and and our confidence in that rests in the solid rock of the gospel. The gospel was announced by Jesus Himself as we see in today's verses, and was confirmed by many eyewitnesses.. (1 Jn.1:1-4) It was further confirmed by Jesus through the many miracles he performed. Yesterday's verse, Heb.2:2, told us: "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away..." Salvation comes through the message that is preached.... "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe" (1 Cor.1:21). Salvation is there for the taking, but we must do the grasping through the message. If someone chooses to ignore or neglect that message, the wonderful promise with be forfeited... The writer of the Book of Hebrews puts it this way: "See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?" (12:25). We must choose and work for that salvation... That's the big "if...."

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
