The Discretionary Stuff

"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth" (1 Jn.3:18).

How much "spare time" do you reckon you will have today? If you are still in the work force, more than likely you will not have as much as you would like, but all of us have some... My question is this... How do we spend our spare time, which for want of better terms, I will call discretionary time? Today's short verse goes a long way in explaining how we might spend that discretionary time... "let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth" Many folks, even Christians, complain about never having enough spare time, yet when they get some do they spend it in actions and truth concerning the Lord's work? Our use of the time we have at our disposal as we deem best, is a pretty fair indication of whether we are telling the truth when we say that we love the Lord... Lets throw one more "spare thing" into the mix.... How about our discretionary money? Many of us may say thing about spare money as we did about spare time... There's just not a lot of it. But what are our priorities when it comes to spending that discretionary cash? It might be good for all of us to read and meditate upon 2 Cor.8:1-5 some time soon. It would seem like the Macedonians, though they didn't have much themselves, urgently pleaded with the apostle Paul for the opportunity to share what they had with those who were in need. I am not saying here that we do not have the right to live comfortably, but do we sow at least a part of our discretionary money into being generous to those who need more than we do? How we use our spare time and money goes a long way in explaining if the Lord is really a priority in our lives. I hope that this is some good food for thought...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
