What The Church Is Supposed To Be

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple" (1 Cor.3:16-17).

Temples have always been built to glorify the being to which they were dedicated. Everything in the temple, including the design itself and the sacrifices and services rendered, were appropriated to praise. In today's verses we find that the church is actually God's temple. We as its members, are both the temple and the priests who offer spiritual sacrifices. "you, also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Pet.2:5). Our purpose is to proclaim the praise of our God as we find a few verses later in I Pet.2:9-10.. If we, as the church are the temple and the priests, just how do we go about offering these sacrifices and praises to God? The apostle Paul instructed us to "offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God ---- this is our spiritual act of worship..." (Rom.12:1). We offer sacrifices and praises to God through the doing of good deeds... "And do not forget to do good and share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased" (Heb.13:16). Lastly, we offer sacrifices and praises to God by raising our voices to Him in songs and prayers... "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise --- the fruit of lips that confess his name..." (Heb.12:15). Our churches are what they are supposed to be when we praise God with our service, body, and voice. Lets be sure to do our part as His temple and priests...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
